About National Payroll Week

National Payroll Week (NPW), taking place from September 18-22, marks an annual celebration of the payroll profession in Canada. Each year, the National Payroll Institute community comes together to recognize all that the payroll profession does to help improve business efficiency and the financial wellness of working Canadians.

In addition to the outstanding in-person and virtual events planned for NPW, this year we are once again celebrating the incredible contributions of our members by sharing portraits of payroll professionals from coast-to-coast-to-coast, captured by Christopher Wahl and Nasuna Stuart-Lin, two of Canada’s top editorial portrait photographers.

“Making a picture of a singular event or individual to tell their story is what I’ve always done,” explains Wahl. “But as we started travelling from Whitehorse and then across the country, I realized that we weren’t just photographing individuals but an entire community. While their stories differed, they were also connected through their dedication to the businesses they work for, the employees they serve and the communities they contribute to – and that connection had to shine through the collection of work.”

“Before taking this assignment, I knew less than nothing about payroll,” adds Stuart-Lin. “Now, I’m in awe of what these experts who have to navigate legislation and make sure their colleagues are paid accurately and on time, every time. The responsibility that they take on to make sure that happens is really inspiring and something every working Canadian should be aware of.”

The National Payroll Institute will share those results on this website and on social media in the lead-up to NPW to show Canada what payroll does to help businesses, workers and communities.
